About the Ontario Photonics Consortium
The Ontario Photonics Consortium is a world-class centre for exploration, development, and engineering related to new photonics initiatives. Established in March 2003, the Consortium is a collaborative research network led by
Principal in the Consortium's early success has been the ability to attract outstanding scientists and engineers. Today, OPC's network of 60 principal investigators, post doctoral fellows and graduate students are recognized leaders in the areas of optical communications, biophotonics, silicon-based photonics, nanophotonics, quantum computing, and materials characterization and fabrication. OPC researchers have access to over C$20M worth of new infrastructure, funded through the Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI) and the Ontario Innovation Trust (OIT) , located at four university campuses across Ontario. This includes fabrication and characterization facilities ranging from state-of-the-art materials growth systems, to industry-standard clean rooms, to high-speed test stations for telecom applications. This photonics infrastructure is second to none on the Canadian university landscape and highly competitive at the international level. In addition to being used as research institutes these facilities are available to companies, giving them the opportunity to develop new and innovative products and services that will keep them at the forefront of the global photonics industry. As we enter a period of renewed strength and global interest in light-based technologies, the Ontario Photonics Consortium is making Ontario a key international player in the rapidly developing field of photonics. |
